SUMMERSCHOOL  GRANT

Grants for North American and European students who wish to come to study at a Swiss University or for Swiss students who wish to study at a North American or European University during the summer in one of the following fields:

Engineering and environmental sciences (the definition of engineering being: the use of scientific principles for the design, construction or production of physical or virtual structures or systems ; this does not include for example medecine, chemistry, physics and all life sciences)

All Medieval disciplines including Medieval Studies

Digital Humanities at the intersection of Medieval Disciplines and Data and Computer Sciences


Who can apply
Currently enrolled students of a North American or a European University or currently enrolled at a Swiss University.

THE FOUNDATION WILL NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION, JUSTIFICATION NOR REASON FOR THE DECISIONS CONCERNING THE ACCEPTANCE OR NOT OF AN APPLICATION.

Grant
A stipend of 1’600 Swiss francs per month, plus return economy class airfare/train ticket from the home university to hosting university.

If the applicant has other sources of funding:

for an amount of up to 20% of our grant there will not be any deduction

for an amount above of 20 % of the grant, the deduction will be that amount from the other source of funding that exceeds 20% of our grant

nevertheless at least 10% of our original grant will be maintained

FALSE OR INCOMPLETE OR LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AND WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY ANSWER.

Application procedure
Applicants should send before the relevant application deadline an email to the ZKS Foundation’s email address here with attached the following three files:

  1. the “Application form” completely filled in.
  2. the “Affidavit” duly completed, dated and signed.
  3. a single PDF file containing the following documents in that order:

 

  • A one page motivation letter stating in particular the specific area among disciplines sponsored by the Foundation (see first paragraph above) in which research during the summer stay will be conducted and skills to be acquired by the candidate during the stay.

 

  • A one-page resume, including descriptions of the candidate’s education and work experience, plus elementary personal data (date and place of birth, citizenship, marital status, language proficiency).

 

  • The candidate’s grade transcripts otherwise known as Transcripts of Records or Mark-sheets for all years of higher education.

 

  • A scanned email or letter from the hosting professor with her/his address and phone number, confirming that she/he will host and provide guidance to the candidate for the entire duration of her/his stay, and providing any relevant information she/he may wish to contribute, for example concerning funding for expenses related to the candidate’s work during her/his stay.

 

  • Recommendation letters are not considered, hence please abstain from sending them to us.

 

Note: in considering the application, the ZKS Foundation may contact the hosting professor.

 

Deadlines
Deadline for the period from June to September of each year or summer break from the home university (summer grants for a maximum of three months):

November 1st of the preceding year
